Poem: Expectation

Set alight with moonlit promise
The fire of expectation smolders like a hidden flame
Every word a proclamation
Every movement shakes the earth

And with wind of whispered words in magic moments
It rises higher and higher still
Until it rages, sparking, crackling, popping
Choking out the air with billowing smoke

And, left unfulfilled, the fire of expectation turns
And in its fury, chars you dark and stormy
Until it consumes you,
And then it burns the very heart out of you
